Flamenco is a beautiful “Dance Form” that blends movements and expressions from a variety of ancient cultures. Our Flamenco for Kids program explores the wonderful art of Flamenco, dance, percussion, singing, guitar, culture, language and history.

Flamenco Classes teaches the fundamentals of this wonderful art while developing the sense of rhythm, stimulating concentration and strengthen motor skills all in a safe, fun and colorful environment, promotes aerobic exercise, enhances proper body functioning, develops imagination and creativity.

During the early stage, the program will focus in building posture, learn sequences of footwork with body and arm movements and produce different percussive sounds by using hands and feet, all while learning multiple choreographies. Games and group activities are the foundation for learning about Flamenco movement and discipline in class assembly. Classes will set up according to grade level and skill sets.

Ballet is the foundation for all others forms of dance. As a concert art form, it embodies strength and technical ideals.

Beginning levels of Ballet are focused on basic techniques. Students explore basic ballet skills, including the 5 positions for arms and feet, and will become familiar with ballet terminology through creative activities. Rhythmic movement develops poise, flexibility, self discipline, sharing, and grace within the class participants. Locomotive skills are always stressed in a fun way in each class.

Belly Dance

Belly dancing is natural to a woman’s bone and muscle structure with movements emanating from the torso rather than in the legs and feet. The dance often focuses upon isolating different parts of the body, moving them independently in sensuous patterns, weaving together the entire feminine form. Belly dancing is generally performed barefoot, thought by many to emphasize the intimate physical connection between the dancer, her expression, and Mother Earth.

Characteristic movements in the dance include curving patterns, undulations, thrusts, lifts, locks, and drops, and shaking or quaking body movements.

The focus is on isolated movements of individual parts of the body with little notice given to the footsteps. Arms and hands move fluidly, like serpents or ribbons in the air. Unusual strength and control is demonstrated in the belly area.

Belly dancing is now considered a great exercise and is used for many health reasons. The graceful hip drops, rolls and pivots of this dance utilize muscle groups in the abdomen, pelvis, trunk, spine, and neck, working with the body instead of against it and also incorporating the mind as well as the body.
